Huge congratulations to Partners, Sharon and John Chittock of the Globe in Chichester, who have received national recognition for responsible retailing at their pub.

The couple were named Tenanted/Leased Pub of the Year at the Responsible Retailing Awards, a national award ceremony run by the Morning Advertiser and Off Licence News. 

Sharon and John took over The Globe Inn two years ago having never run a pub before.  They have now transformed the pub into one of the largest sports-themed pubs in the country. The Globe previously had a poor reputation but Sharon and John, with support from BRM Simon Thornton, have worked closely with the local authorities to ensure their pub is a safe and welcoming environment for responsible drinkers.

Judges from the competition said: “The Globe is a model of how pubs can ‘call time’ on irresponsible drinks retailing. There’s no doubt that Sharon and John’s sterling work is helping to protect Chichester residents from the worst effects of alcohol misuse and creating a safer environment for everyone.  They thoroughly deserve to win this national title.”

The pub has undergone a massive refurbishment so is now a more attractive place to drink, and Sharon and John have taken a ‘zero tolerance’ approach to alcohol and drugs. They have also trained all of the team at their team on dealing with potentially difficult customers. Challenge 25 materials are displayed throughout and the pub is part of Chichester Business Against Crime.
