Dear potential Publican,
If you are considering entering the world of hospitality by taking on your own pub business, may I first say that Punch would be delighted to hear from you and potentially work with you to deliver a fantastic pub business at the heart of its local community.
I would also like to offer you some reassurance.  You may be aware from press reports that Heineken and a private company called Patron have come together with an offer to acquire the Punch business.
The approved offer is currently being reviewed by the Competition and Markets Authorities and, should the offer complete, would mean that Heineken will take full operational responsibility for the 1,900 pubs they have purchased and the remaining 1,400 pubs will continue to be operated by Punch.

These two groups of Pubs are referred to as Punch A and Punch B. Punch A are the Pubs being purchased by Heineken and Punch B are the Pubs remaining with Punch.
I wanted to offer you comfort that, regardless of the pubís owner, your agreement / lease/contract will be fully honoured, together with itís rights, terms and obligations and for those leased and tenanted Pubs, the Pubs Code Regulations.
Whilst we are not able to comment specifically on Heinekenís intentions, we would refer you to statements from Heineken as reported in the Morning Advertiser earlier this year.   They provide assurances in relation to their desire to work constructively with licensees to grow their businesses and state that licensees would have the ability to stock drinks from a wide range of drinks suppliers, including access to SIBA (Society of Independent Brewers).

If you would like to know whether the Pub you are interested in is part of Punch A or Punch B, then your Punch Development Manager (PDM) will be happy to provide you with that information as part of the interview process.
If you do decide to take on a new pub business, may I wish you every possible success.
Best wishes,
Duncan Garrood
